Change is, like, in the air or something... After five years in LA and three of them on this site, I'm hitting the road for a new video game project out in Boston, but will continue on as managing editor and correspondent.
I've had an amazing time in LA -- largely because of the fantastic music scene here and all the great people I've met through it -- and I hope to visit frequently and be back at some point in the future.
Enough about me, here's a look at the new staff and what they'll each be doing:
-- Former Square Girls Marion Hodges, Kristen Grant, and Rachel Ballard will all be contributing... Marion will tap into her exhaustive knowledge of all things indie pop to write New Band Spotlight articles and CD reviews, Rachel will be sending in reports from music festivals, and Kristen will help out as her busy schedule permits.
-- Brad Roberts from Feed Your Head will handle the weekly LA Show Low Down article, regular show reviews, and more.
-- Writer Whitney Hawke will continue putting together feature articles (like her recent profile on Earlimart's Aaron Espinoza), news stories, and album reviews, while former Radars to the Sky guitarist and friend Seamus Simpson will write reviews like his recent one on Cursive at Spaceland.
-- Frequent show-goers Joel Robertson and Jed Lowenthal will organize ticket giveaways and post videos of local or visiting bands playing in town, respectively.
-- Photographers Laurie Scavo and Zoe-Ruth Erwin will be regularly gracing the site with their photos, like Laurie's shots of Great Northern and Zoe's series on Death to Anders.
-- Our friend Octavius from KXLU Demo Listen will be help us expand our focus from (generally) just East Side bands and venues to explore what's worth checking out on at venues like The Smell, Pehrspace, and more.
-- And pretty much everyone will be working on our Los Angeles show calendar to make sure it's hopefully the most completely up-to-date and comprehensive one out there.
Beyond all that, we plan to start running our weekly IM interviews again soon, are looking into doing an online radio show and podcast, mean to (heh) figure out how to fix our RSS feed, and more.
I'd like to take this opportunity to personally thank everyone whose contributing to the site because they're not doing it for money or out of any self-interest. It's just out of love for this great local music scene that's given a lot to us, as The Henry Clay People put it, for cheap or for free.
You guys done good in getting Laurie, she's a stellar photog
