After last week's epic post, I'm going to keep this one relatively short and sweet. Check out Brad's excellent as usual rundown of what's going on this week, and have a very happy New Years Eve.
1) The Prs Hltn Mthfckrs are playing at the Smell on December 30. I thought they broke up, so if this is true, totally worth seeing. The sound on this brilliant video a few years ago is not so good, but the video captures the performance reasonably well:
2) I've heard Elaine Layabout's Hella Hipster Hoedown is pretty great. Take Brad's recommendation and check out the next one on New Year's Day at the Echo Curio. Here's video from some of the bands playing that night.

Asa Ransom - "New Circles"
Andy Clockwise - "My Generation"
3) The excellent One Trick Pony are playing at the Echo Curio on January 2nd. Here's their Simon Cardozo/Christian Biel directed video for "Phone Book".

4) In sad news, singer/songwriter Vic Chesnutt died over the Christmas weekend of an apparent suicide. I saw him play at the Mint in 1999 or 2000 along with his good friend Kristen Hersh and their duet of "Your Ghost" was chill-up-spine inducing. I'm a big Michael Stipe fan (who sang on the original), but Chenutt's voice couldn't have better accompanied Ms. Hersh. His music out-depresses even the likes of Morrissey, but the guy sure was good at what he did. Here's a few songs of his:
"Supernatural"
"The Foxx and Little Vic"
"Independence Day"
"Sponge"
Let's have a nice new decade okay? We're all going to look a lot older at the end of it.
