March comes in like a lion with George Glass headlining our Free Tuesdays at LaBrie's event this month and tonight they welcome POLLS (interviewed here) and former band mates, Death To Anders, to the stage. This is going to be a terrific show inaugurating a great month. George Glass has made an indelible impression in a very short time with their intelligent and creative songwriting, matched with an electrifying stage performance. They even released one of my favorite records last year.
After last week's marathon of concerts (six shows in seven days), I hoped for a little respite this week. Sorry, no luck, there's something to lure me out of the house every night this week as well. All the February Monday residencies play their final nights and I can only catch one of them and the chance to see J.TIllman at The Bootleg is baiting me to the Jenny O show. There's A Hawk and a Hacksaw at The Satellite on Wednesday and Great Northern at Bootleg Theatre on Thursday.
And more inside...

DECISION:
Jenny O enjoys her last Monday at the Bootleg Theatre, and the opening set by J. Tillman (at right, by now everyone knows he is also the drummer for Fleet Foxes) makes this mandatory for me. I am crushed at having missed the entire Red Cortez residency at The Satellite, who are once more with the mighty Everest in support, to help finish off their February residency. But I can make it up by attending their free set at Origami on Thursday at 7. Other residencies ending tonight are Slang Chickens/Papa and Robotanists at The Echo and Silver Lake Lounge, respectively.KCRW's Monday series at Bardot, which provided one of last week's biggest surprises for me (the Choir of Young Believers show), continues this week with Eulogies and the wonderful choral work of Family of the Year.

Tonight's Free Tuesdays at LaBrie's bill includes POLLS and Death To Anders (photo of Rob Danson by Zoe-Ruth at right) which means that the George Glass residency gets off to a roaring start. It looks like the best show of the night.

DECISION:
I'd love to attend A Hawk and a Hacksaw (photo at right) at The Satellite if I'm not burned out. I saw them a couple of years ago, have their album and have fond memories of that show. I saw the remarkable cellist, Zoe Keating when she opened for Amanda Palmer a few years back and I've never forgotten her. She's opening for Kaki King tonight at Largo at the Coronet. Ferraby Lionheart has a show at The Bootleg, and Devendra Banhart is opening for Swans at El Rey, both amazing artists, so good luck deciding what to do.

DECISION:
Another chance to catch Red Cortez, at Origami Vinyl, then I'd like to head over to Bootleg Theatre to see Great Northern (at right), who were so impressive at The Satellite last month. The new four-person line up is a good mesh and I look forward to whatever they do next. At another good show, The Entrance Band are joined by Sun Araw at The Satellite. Alexi Murdoch does another local show at Bootleg Theatre, tonight with local darlings, The Watson Twins.
Sunday, March 6

- Morcheeba, The Mumlers @ Henry Fonda Music Box Theatre

- Broken Records, US Royalty @ The Satellite
- Gobble Gobble, Captain Ahab, Foot Village, Heller Keller @ The Smell
DECISION:
Interesting bill at The Smell with Gobble Gobble playing their second show of the week, along with Captain Ahab and Foot Village. McCabe's is appropriately featuring a band with the name McCabe & Mrs. Miller (pictured at right), which I mention mostly because that's personally one of my all time favorite films. Upon listening to their myspace samples, I found that they play a sort of rootless road country rock that's very nice featuring some powerful vocals.
Sorry not to make it out to any Sunday shows on Feb.28, but I was busy...
