1) My favorite LA based alt-country band the Lonely Wild are headlining in April at RFSL's Labrie's residency. Admittedly, I've been talking about them on this site in disproportion to just about everything and everybody else, but based on the crowd's response to their recent (packed) Bootleg show, I have a feeling that my enthusiasm is based on their universal appeal, rather than any particularities of my own. And here (drumroll), Video Free Silver Lake premieres video of their live performance of "Morning Song", recorded in the mountains of Stoney Point in Chatsworth, CA. Apparently, they hiked up while it was still dark, and the sun came up just as they started playing this song. The sound is great.
2) Two bits of news about See Green. First, they are playing tomorrow night at 8:30 p.m. at the 1616 Club (1616 E. 15th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90021), a new venue reportedly "brought to you by the savory folks at the Spearmint Rhino strip club chain". The event is sponsored by Star 98.7, the radio station that first introduced me to Ryan Seacrest in the afternoon drivetime slot.
Second, we have here the premiere of the awesome new video out for "Are You Happy", which supposedly has a plot involving Courtenay being attacked by cats. Fun Fact: all non-green screen material was obtained from public domain Youtube material. The wheelchair scenes towards the end are laughworthy. There's also a bunch of voodoo masked villains, the purpose of their villainy unexplained and inexplicable.
3) Earlier this week on ConsequenceOfSound, L.A.'s Henry Clay People released a video for "The Winter Song" off of their upcoming This Is A Desert EP. HCP have been busy lately. Besides a) DJing some of RFSL Labrie's residency shows, they b) recently appeared on the (hilarious) Sklar Brothers podcast Sklarbro Country along with other guests Amy Poehler and James Adomian, c) will be at Coachella on April 15th and d) have a new song ("California Wildfire") available for free download. Warning: the video features graphic violence between musician brothers.

4) Here's some great live footage of Manhattan Murder Mystery in SXSW (courtesy of Lord Growing from the 704 Blog).
5) Three new video's from L.A.'s Airborne Toxic Event. First, the premiere of "Numb", which I received literally about 60 seconds ago.
Second, this week's Bombastic (weekly posting of live video of song from new album) video is up. Check out "Strange Girl" (TATE's "ode to the Cure") below (which was filmed in a completely dark room (with a night vision camera?)):
Third, I forgot to post last week's Bombastic video for "The Kids Are Ready to Die" (again, Mikel, what's up with the sleeveless shirt?) so here you go, a week late.
6) Birds & Batteries, who are playing on 04/02 at Pehrspace, recently premiered this single take video for "Strange Kind of Mirror", all shot (with no edits) at the Top Hat Barber Shop in Oakland.
7) Pitchfork just the other day put up this high quality live video of the Dum Dum Girls at L.A.'s Echoplex.
8) You've probably already seen the Carl Sagan music video "A Glorious Dawn", which made the rounds on youtube about a year and a half ago ("not a sunrise, but a galaxyrise"). I thought it was fantastic, but did not realize that it was but the first in a multipart series called Symphony of Science, each addressing a different scientific topic in autotuned song. Here, I present to you "Ode to the Brain" featuring Carl Sagan, Robert Winston, Vilayanur Ramachandran, Jill Bolte Taylor, Bill Nye, and Oliver Sacks.
9) This last Wednesday night, I drove out to Palm Springs for the evening to see Iceland's Bloodgroup perform at the hotel bar of Ace Hotel in Palm Springs. I drove through 2.5 hours of rain (the rain stopped for about 20 minutes through one mountain pass because it was snowing instead) to arrive at the bar, just 15 minutes before the band went on. I quickly glanced around the room to see what others had ventured so far just to see these guys, but soon discovered that virtually everyone that was a hotel guest with no idea who they were. A small group formed a few minutes later that were evidently Icelandic (by their distinctive fashion), but I also suspected that they were traveling with the band. Show was super cool, "Safety Dance" cover and all. However, it turns out that I could have avoided this trip entirely and watched this live performance of "My Arms" at the Ace Hotel in New York, just a week or two before. Shucks.
