1) Years and years ago, when these Swedish twins First Aid Kit covered the Fleet Foxes' Tiger Mountain Pleasant Song, my brother began emailing me about them, urging to me to check it out. Years and years and millions of youtube views later, I urge you, friends, to view First Aid Kit's recent release -- "Emmylou" taken from thir new album The Lion's Roar -- and shot at Joshua Tree (just a short 2 hour drive from Los Angeles).
3) Act As If's video for "Walk Out On Me" from their new EP which can be ordered here is a rotating time lapse video of a guy (Cris Carignan) growing a beard. Long ago, I used to think about making one of these, but it seemed like such an unrealistic project. It it truly inspiring that the internet is packed full of time lapse videos. I must admit that the beard this guy grows is gnarlier than any beard I've ever grown, and I heartily respect it.
4) Back in the back in the day, I used to love seeing Lo-Fi Sugar play in L.A., and to occasionally run into its lead singer walking around Century City. Apparently, on January 3, they played their first show in 3 years at the Silverlake Lounge, described as "an enourmous success", at which over 100 people showed up. Here is a portion of their performance of "Turn It Up".
5) Iceland's Orphic Oxtra's video for "Skeletons Having Sex on a Tin Roof" is one of the stranger videos I've seen, sounds kind of like John Zorn maybe, but it otherwise worth checking out.
