Welcome back to town all the travelling bands and musicians coming home from Austin, Texas. We'll have a big SXSW Wrap Up posted here tomorrow and I'm looking forward to hearing some first hand accounts of the event and how our local bands were received in the "heartland". Not to mention the general debauchery that makes this festival such a test of endurance. The photo at right looks like Seasons to me, and it may be from the show Radio Free Silver Lake presented there on Sunday...but maybe not. Anyway, congratulations to all.
What we have on tap this week is a variety of acts both local and international. Loney Dear, The Magnetic Fields and Of Montreal are coming through town on tour and The Belle Brigade open for Good Old War at Avalon, which seems to be filling in for The Fonda lately. Release the Sunbird would be worth catching at Bootleg Bar on Saturday.
I'm hoping to get out to the show by Poor Moon, made up of a couple of members of Fleet Foxes and The Christmas Cards at The Echo, opening for a band I'm anxious to see for the second time, Lost in the Trees, who have a new album out this week. This combination of Northwestern folk rock and Appalachian chamber bluegrass will be quite a heady mixture. There are also new albums out on Tuesday, March 20 by The Shins and Choir of Young Believers, as well as Lost in the Trees.

DECISION:
Looks like quite a show at The Echo tonight. Thought I've only seen them once before, I was very intrigued by the blend of Orchestral / Chamber / Bluegrass elements that characterize this Chapel Hill band, Lost in the Trees. Back at a free in-store performance at Amoeba in August 2010, this seven-member band crowded onto the stage and swept up the crowd with their beautiful sound. The additional draw of Poor Moon (at right) a new project from Fleet Foxes' members, Christian Wargo and Casey Wescott, along with Ian and Peter Murray of The Christmas Cards. I think this is something I have to see. Oh, and Aaron Embry is on the bill with Perfume Genius at The Bootleg.

Tonight they land at Avalon and bring with them another local band who seem destined for stardom, Family of the Year. The Bootleg has the LA Psych Fest with The Entrance Band, Jeffertitti's Nile and Allah Las.
