After the Jubilee of the previous weekend, it was a pretty quiet week. The exception being the show I attended at The Echo on Thursday night. I went to see Fort King in their new four-member arrangement, which shows great promise, but seeing Horse Feathers was something of a revelation. This chamber/folk ensemble from the Pacific Northwest completely won my heart. I'm thoroughly addicted to their CD's already and couldn't have been more surprised by their set. And the audience was in quite a festive mood. It was a night to remember.
Among the artists performing this week I'd call attention to are Theresa Andersson at The Troubadour on Thursday night, Little Barrie at "School Night!" on Monday at Bardot, but especially The Happy Hollows who are trying out their new material which we have been anxiously awaiting, at The Smell on Friday night with an all-star line up including Deap Vally and Gothic Tropic. I've managed to pick out a few others inside...

DECISION:
A whole new batch of Monday residencies start up this week, which includes a dual-residency at Bootleg Bar by The Colourist (shown at right) and Blondfire, who co-host each week this month. JJAMZ, fresh off an attention grabbing show at Silver Lake Jubilee, are playing The Satellite every Monday, bringing Army Navy tonight, who haven't played out in a while and E.S.P. take up residency at The Echo. Little Barrie impressed me greatly when I saw them play the Bootleg Bar with Auditorium a couple of weeks back, and tonight they're part of the "School Night!" bill over at Bardot. I can recommend them most highly.
Tuesday, June 5
- Kate Miller Heidke, Zach Williams & The Below, Cordovas, Among Savages, Patrick Joseph @ Hotel Cafe
- Ben Howard, Bahamas @ The Troubadour

DECISION:
Some interesting sets here and there around town tonight including Gothic Tropic at Echoplex, The New Limb play with Warships at The Central and Spirit Vine at Los Globos. Lana Del Rey plays the third of three sold out shows at El Rey, while Ben Howard begins the first of two sold out nights at The Troubadour.
Wednesday, June 6
- Destroyer, Sandro Perri @ El Rey
- Cardoza, Manhattan Murder Mystery, Anna Tommy @ Lot 1
- Ace Gonzalez & the Surfilm Sound @ Bootleg Gallery
- David Ryan Harris, Andy Zipf, Mark Lane, Melody Federer @ Hotel Cafe

- Sophia Knapp, Fur Traders, Alana Amram @ Bootleg Bar
DECISION:
Come out and celebrate our friend Simon's new band called, appropriately, Cardoza. He's been given a residency over at Lot 1 to debut, and tonight it's a guaranteed full house with Manhattan Murder Mystery on the bill. If you want to party on a Wednesday night, this is where to be. As a huge New Pornographers fan I must recommend the Destroyer show over at El Rey. Not that this in any way resembles The New Pornographers, Dan Bejar's other band explores very different territory.
And, when I saw Poor Moon open at the extraordinary Lost in the Trees show at Bootleg last March, I was sufficiently impressed to recommend their show with always engaging The Mid-Cities at The Echo.
Thursday, June 7

- Lazersword, Record Release, Salva, Sodapop @ Los Globos (upstairs)
- Free Moral Agents, Hawk Jones, Wild Pack of Canaries, Dazylite @ Home Room
- Meg Myers, Diamonds Under Fire, Digital Daggers @ Bootleg Bar
- The Cigarette Bums, Cab 20, Buffalo Electric, Pool Honeys @ The Satellite
- Viking Moses, Pangolin, Teenage Mysticism @ Lot 1
DECISION:
A dizzying selection of shows tonight makes staying home not-an-option. Theresa Andersson (at right) is a stunningly original and creative performance artist as she builds intricate yet catchy pop with all her loops and pedals, all by herself, and she's on display at The Troubadour. Useless Keys headline a good line up at Los Globos, but I may finish my night off with a late (11PM) show by Tommy Santee Klaws at Taix Lounge with 5-Track.

DECISION:
What could be better than new music from The Happy Hollows (at right). Only for them to appear on a bill with Deap Vally and Gothic Tropic, and that's what's going on over a The Smell tonight. They seem really enthusiastic about their new album so it would be great to share in the excitement.
Among the local bands getting exposure at The Troubadour, Hands gets on stage in West Hollywood with Maps and Atlases.
