Lafayette Louisiana indie rockers Brass Bed play an early show at the Bootleg Theater this Sunday August 26, along with San Francisco garage rockers the Blank Tapes. (Brass Bed also plays a free in-store show at Origami Vinyl Sunday afternoon.) Radio Free Silver Lake has tickets for one lucky reader (and a guest) to the Bootleg show. See details below to enter for your chance at tickets.
Brass Bed plays a form of guitar-driven yet poppy psych rock that is both steeped in and innovates against the Cajun music, 3/4 waltz beats and heavy drinking traditions of their native Lafayette, Louisiana music scene. The four piece first came to our attention when they headlined a 2010 show at Spaceland with opening act George Glass. That night at Spaceland I heard Brass Bed for the first time cold, knowing nothing about the band. Have you ever been to a show when the band is playing one of the best sets you’ve ever seen to half a room? You’re just standing there front and center, right up on the stage, jaw on the floor? That show.
Since 2010’s Melt White, the band has recorded a new album The Secret Will Keep You (due out in 2013), in addition to On Nilsson, an EP of Harry Nilsson covers. They also recorded an album of mutual covers with the young Cajun band Feufollet. Perhaps the thing that has most influenced them since 2010 is having a break from their relentless touring schedule to relax and recharge when front man Christiaan Mader went on tour playing bass with Shearwater and the other band members had some time at home. “A Bullet For You,” a three-song 7″ on green vinyl is out September 18th, 2012 on Crossbill Records.
