This week we bring you a quick round up including a couple LA artists who are receiving acclaim on a national scale and a sampling of some of the videos of live Echo Park Rising performances we found.
Julia Holter - Goddess Eyes I
Julia Holter operates in a space where the experimental meets independent music closer to indie rock meets DIY bedroom pop, but with jazz, harpsichord and just about anything else you can imagine fair game as inspiration and source material.
Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti “Only in Dreams”
Ariel Pink, as RFSL's Octavius chronicled in a 2010 live show review, is an artist known as well for his moodiness and petulance as he is for making strange music that occasionally flickers with something akin to genius when he decides he's on. A couple of albums on 4AD and a favorable review in the national music press have brought him wider attention.
Echo Park Rising
A quick search for a show clip turned up this treasure trove of live videos from the Echo Park Rising Festival this weekend. Here are a couple to get you started on your own black hole of YouTube afternoon.
Dante Vs Zombies - In The Summertime - Echo Park Rising Festival 8/25/12
In a word Dante is a showman of the first order and his band are anything but Zombies.
Future Ghost - Scream White Noise (Echo Park Rising TAIX 8/25/12)
Future Ghost is a loud sweaty, stripped down good time of a live show.
HOTT MT "The Family Flea"
These guys are also known as the band that drove to Wayne Coyne's house in Oklahoma to wish him a happy birthday. The venture resulted in a collaboration on a 7" "Never Hate Again" featuring Wayne Coyne (video follows this one). Here they battle a bubble machine at Echo Park Rising for "The Family Flea."
HOTT MT "Never Hate Again" feat. Wayne Coyne
Hands
Always a great live show, high energy dancy indie rock.
