Jillinda Palmer - Song For Kermit
I wrote the music for this song over a year ago, long before I had written any lyrics, but I always felt it had a Vaudeville/ Nilsson-esque vibe to it. I racked my brain for so long trying to figure out what the song should be about. Then it dawned on me. What is more Vaudeville than the Muppets? So I started comparing the muppets to my own life. I'm always scrambling to get my act together. I play and sing in so many different shows on a regular basis and it seems like a train that will de-rail at any moment, but it always works out and the show always goes on. However, I never would have thought as a young girl growing up in Texas, that I would end up in LA writing songs and playing shows and all that, but somehow I have come to find enjoyment in all this chaos. I mean, it's the most common story. People come out west to make it. It doesn't end up quite how they expect, but it's always well worth the journey.
Max & The Moon - Out of My Head
This song has everything I love: A great melody, a catchy piano hook, the four on the floor beat, memorable lyrics, wonderfully stacked vocal harmonies, and a fitting title, since it's literally been stuck in my head since the first time I heard it. These are all pop music qualities that I am such a fan of. I think this music video is beautifully made and I really love the song and I love that the video shows a darker interpretation of the song than would otherwise be reflected upon after only listening.
This music video was shot a couple years ago, but I still wanted to bring attention to it because I think it's awesome! They shot it inverted which meant they had to paint everything and everyone white. I'm also super glad to hear that Tandemoro is putting out a new full-length record called "Playing With Fire" which includes this song Diamonds, Pinball and many other of my favs that they used to play around LA.
Ozarks - As I Lay Sleeping
I found this video via Evan Way from the Parson Redheads. I've been a big fan of them for years and even though they're not in LA anymore, I try to keep up with all their happenings. I'm glad to know that Evan's playing drums in this band and that they have a brand new video that I just happened to stumble upon during my late night Facebook trolling! The song has a super groovy bass line that I love and the video makes me think of Harold and Maude which I'm told is not a bad thing at all.
Maria Sings Into A "Chicken Bone"
I wanted to go out on a funny note with this little gem of a video. The short backstory: My girl group The Damselles & The TC4 were playing our friend's birthday party and we opened up for this really great cover band, City Beats. During their encore , "Vehicle" by The Ides Of March, Maria started singing along at our table into a bone and the singer of the band actually noticed her and they made a moment out of it. Luckily our friend filmed the whole thing on his phone. For the record it was actually a lamb shank.
