Time flies. Here comes December and another end of another year. There'll be a flurry of shows right up until the month deflates around Christmas and the New Year's Eve shows of choice begin to emerge. The next few Low Downs may be on the slight side.
As bereft as I have been since the announcement that there is no more Pinback, I am as excited by the re-emergence of Three Mile Pilot as I am heartened by the news that Rob Crow is making music again and will be here in March. This Friday Zach Smith brings not only Three Mile Pilot to The Satellite, but his side project, Systems Officer, as well as a set by Black Heart Procession's frontman, Pall Jenkins. Should provide a nice window into some of the future directions of the artists involved.
Some particular favorites of mine have sets this week including Gold Star at The Virgil on Tuesday, Christian Lee Hutson at The Echo on Wednesday, Lady Low on Thursday at The Satellite, Emerson Star at El Cid and yOya at The Lost Room, both on Friday. And Miranda Lee Richards is opening for The Dandy Warhols at Teragram Ballroom on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
