LA indie rock act Francisco The Man are playing for FREE next Tuesday night as part of the George Glass residency at LaBrie's with The Shirley Rolls.
We somehow had never interviewed the guys before, so set out recently to change that.
This is pretty much how the whole thing went down:
Hey! We like your band. How long have you been around?
Thanks! We originally formed in early 2007. However, our guitarist left the band about a year later and we were basically on hiatus for awhile, taking time to finish school, etc. We started recording With Friends Like You in early 2009 and it has felt like a completely different band since.
How did you guys all first meet and start playing together?
We met at a roller rink in high school. Then had an internet relationship for a bit.
What made you want to make music at first? What keeps you at it the most today?
Honestly, I have no idea. I've wanted to play since I was a kid. I just feel like it is what I'm supposed to do. Sometimes it makes me happier than almost anything in the world and sometimes it ruins my day. So it goes.
Your second EP With Friends Like You came out last summer. Who did you work with on it? How did that go?
We recorded that ourselves. It was a bitch. It took forever. It was also really fun and I think we all learned a lot. TW Walsh mixed and mastered it. He's a magician and a great guy to work with. Hope to do it again.
Are you guys recording now?
Yeah. We will probably be releasing something in the next month or so.
What do you have planned for the show on Tuesday?
Training bras.
Who are your favorite local bands in LA?
That's a tough question. There are a ton of great bands out here right now. I really dig Chasing Kings, Radars to the Sky and The Fling.
This weekend LA is getting invaded by aliens. Are you worried? Have you taken any steps to prepare?
We are actually having a band meeting tomorrow to discuss this very question.
