This is obviously The Airborne Toxic Event's week in Los Angeles, as our local heroes come to town to celebrate where it all began for them with a series of concerts in a variety of venues, both big and small. As an indicator of how popular they have become, all shows are sold out. In addition to their album release on Tuesday for All At Once, they also have gigs on The Tonight Show and JImmy Kimmel Live this week. Photo above, we track them below. I was stupidly neglectful and failed to get a ticket, so unless I hang my head out my kitchen window on Thursday and hear them taping Jimmy Kimmel, I'm out of luck. Among the local bands they wanted to have opening for them are Walking Sleep, Voxhaul Broadcast and Ovideo.
With Zombie-Jesus Day behind us we can get back to business of music, and if you're not following The Airborne Toxic Event around, then check out our last residency with The Lonely Wild at LaBrie's on Tuesday or the Andy Clockwise record release show at The Troubadour on Wednesday. Explosions in the Sky have a sold out show at Hollywood Forever in the Masonic Lodge. There's much much more inside...
I did see some wonderful music last week with Sara Radle Band (who included guests, The Damselles) from the Walking Sleep residency on Monday, to Paul Simon's incredible show at The Fonda last Tuesday and finally, the Cody the Band record release show at Silver Lake Lounge on Thursday with great sets by Downtown/Union and Judson.

DECISION:
The Airborne Toxic Event (at right) take over the Walking Sleep residency at The Satellite to begin this marathon of local shows whereby the band says "thank you" to the community that spawned them. This paying show is sold out, as are all the rest of their shows this week, a far cry from when I first saw them on Oct 20, 2006 as an opening act at El Cid in front af a few die-hard fans and friends. Now they're back at the sight of two of their residencies (when the venue was called Spaceland), Mondays back in March 2007 and on Thursdays in January 2008 when they're career was just about to take off. I remember being confronted by the longest lines I'd ever seen there before, but stilll I managed to get into a few of their shows.
Rumspringa, Amanda Jo Williams and Wake Up Lucid are completing their respective residencies, and, along with Frank Fairfield at Redwood Bar, and a great show at The Airliner, make choices very difficult this Monday.

DECISION:
Being Tuesday, I intend to talk about our show first, 'cause frankly, that's where I'll be. It's the final chance to catch one of L.A. best and rapidly rising young bands, The Lonely Wild, who's brand of indie/pop songs are filled with interesting hooks and gorgeous melodies carried by some strong writing and dazzling vocal harmonies. Wires In The Walls (above) and Escalator Hill round out the bill at LaBrie's in Glendale.
This is the day All At Once is released and to celebrate, The Airborne Toxic Event appear with Jay Leno on The Tonight Show (taped earlier) while simultaneously appearing at The Troubadour, through the miracle of modern technology. JAXART also has a good show at Lot 1 Cafe and there are shows at The Bootleg and The Satellite with bands worth checking out.

The Airborne Toxic Event are at Fingerprints in Long Beach today before hitting El Rey tonight with White Arrows and Ovideo. The Builders and the Butchers are a lot of fun and play The Satellite tonight and Soko will be socko at The Bootleg.
The Silver Lake Jubilee gets things rolling with two anticipatory shows leading up to the festival itself on May 21, 22. I hear they will thereafter host a monthly show which will certainly be a welcome addition to the local music scene. Tonight they present a show at El Cid with The Monolators and a show at Perspace starring Love Grenades. Many other top bands are on these bills, so check them out.

Also, a bunch of random sets command attention, like The Ross Sea Party at The Bootleg, Gardens and Villa (at right) at Silver Lake Lounge and My Pet Saddle at The Satellite.

DECISION:
Explosions in the Sky (at right) perform gorgeous music in the beautiful, atmospheric Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in a show that is already sold out. Once again, I got frozen out of this one too, but at least I've seen them before. I've been way too lax about being on top of ticket scoring. The Monolators and Ema and the Ghosts make a potent pair at dA Center for the Arts. Good shows on at Pehrspace and The Satellite.

Hauschka absolutely blew me away with his magnificent originality on his tortured piano when I saw him open for Dustin O'Halloran a while back at Hollywood Forever Cemetery and I should go again tonight, same place. The legendary Leon Redbone plays at McCabe's.
