Eli Reyes plays drums in Fresno indie rock act Rademacher and post-punk band The Fay Wrays. We've covered the former tons so thought it was well past time we learned more about the latter.
Here's a quick conversation with Eli about The Fay Wrays from earlier this week:
Congrats on the release of your album on Bandcamp! Who did you record with?
We recorded the album here in Fresno with an engineer by the name of Eric Peters.
Are you releasing physical copies as well or going all digital?
The album is available via Bandcamp, Itunes, and Rhapsody. We also released a cassette version of the album through local label Coattrack records.
At first blush, you guys seem somewhat influenced by 90s Dischord and other acts from that period. Is that accurate?
You nailed it on the head, man, 90's era Dischord is one of our biggest influences. Bands such as Fugazi, Girls Vs Boys, Jawbox, and Hoover have inspired us greatly. We also love Shellac, These Arms Are Snakes, and even some Helmet.
You're based out of Fresno. Do you play a lot between there, SF, and LA?
Being in Fresno gives us the luxury of being half way between LA and San Francisco, so we try to play both cities as much as we can given both are hectic schedules.
Who are your favorite acts out of Fresno?
There are a lot of really good bands here in Fresno, but two of my favorites have to be The Sunburns, and Achievement House, both are newer bands that are making a great deal of awesome music. Strange Vine is another really great Fresno band that has really talented members.
How long you guys been around? How'd you meet?
This band has been around since mid 2006, but before that we had a band called The Soma Holidays. If I remember correctly we actually met the same way most folks in bands do, I think we met at a show.
What's next for you?
Now that this album is out we're really looking forward to playing more shows and getting out to new audiences especially in LA, San Diego, and San Francisco/Oakland areas.
Last question: What are you listening to right now?
What am I listening to now? No joke, I'm actually listening to rough tracks from the upcoming Rademacher record. That's also coming out soon and I'm really looking forward to that, as well.
