Tonight Boise dreampop duo Youth Lagoon plays a sold out show at the Troubadour with Porcelain Raft and Jeans Wilder opening. If last November's show at the Echo is any inidcation, Youth Lagoon's Trevor Powers and guitarist Logan Hyde will project a forceful beam of charisma into the audience that belies the fragile compostions on the album. The evening promises to be awash in delicate falsetto synthetude. Porcelain Raft, from Italy via New York, is touring in support of their androgynous sonambulant debut album Strange Weekend, recorded in a cabin-feverish month in a basement in Brooklyn. "I was experimenting with things I like, absorbing them and then moving on," Mauro Remiddi of Porcelain Raft explained to RFSL. This album couldn't have been made before the current era of small digital studios. "Now it is possible to edit what you do. Before I would record on tape to multitrack. The ability to edit [in digital audio], the edits become an instrument, a part of the composition. I use what I have in front of me." Porcelain Raft is touring as a two-piece with Michael Wallace on drums. With a small group Remiddi says, "we are forced to be clever and creative in what we do. We are still digesting these songs [while we play them live]. They are developing in front of our eyes."
Youth Lagoon, Porcelain Raft and Jeans Wilder play tonight April 12 at the Troubadour, 9081 Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles, CA, 90069. All ages, Doors open at 8:00, show at 8:30PM. The show is sold out.
