Video Free Silver Lake: Manhattan Murder Mystery, Torches, Tilbury
By Jed
1) In honor of the Olympics, Manhattan Murder Mystery's new video for "Owen Hart" (directed by John Seasons) prominently features the theme of a sport NOT included this year in London: Mexican wrestling.
2) Torches, who as of late have been a frequent feature on L.A.'s World Famous KROQ have a gruesome new video for "I Want Something." It begins with what seems to be a scene of a badly beaten, and kidnapped couple, and then cuts to Torches' Azad checking his text messages, while reclining against a tree. From this he gets the idea to purchase an axe, unsuccessfully attempts to take money out of the ATM, and then consults with bandmates, as well as some grimly written journal entries about what to do. We later discover that the beaten and kidnapped couple is his bandmates, who are inexplicably splashed with water, while interspersed with a cut from a 1950s film. We finally discovery, as the camera pans out, that the kidnapping scene is being filmed as part of Azad's art film, presumably of the snuff sort, which is being shown for a group of entertained film fans. Finally, we are relieved to discover that the subjects of the film are alive and well, and had merely been acting as characters within this film within a film.
3) Tilbury is among the latest, most recently buzzed about bands in Iceland today, a supergroup, in fact, composed of members of Icelandic superstar bands Valdimar, Brother Grass, Hjaltalín, and Sin Fang. First, enjoy this live performance of "Riot", in my opinion the best song of their new (excellent) album Exorcise, at the KEXPort Block Party at the Kex Hostel in Reykjavik (an increasingly popular music venue). It was held on July 14, 2012.
And here, is their official video for "Tenderloin", the other likely smash single from Exorcise. It features clips from the Icelandic TV-film Tilbury (1987) by Viðar Víkingsson.
