1) L.A's Saint Motel's new video for "1997" (the new single for their album Voyeur) was shot at and takes place at the Dresden bar in L.A., home of lounge singers Marty & Elayne (featured prominently in the film Swingers).

2) Iceland's National Festival (Þjóðhátíð) too place this last week in the Westmann Islands as it has for every year since 1874. Every year a song is chosen as the Þjóðhátíð Song, typically something very cheesy, and easy for the 10,000 attendees to learn within a few days and sing along with the band that performs it. I wasn't terribly impressed by this year's song, but for the last 10 years or so, the Þjóðhátíð song "Lífið Er Yndislegt" ("Life is Wonderful") has been performed. It appears it was a big hit once again, as shown here in this video from nytonlist.net ("New Music.net"). Both times that I witnessed this moment at the festival were very inspiring.
