Let's hear it for Pam Shaffer and her album, It Is Happening Again, which is being launched with a Record Release Show at Hotel Cafe on Thursday night. Another artist who peddles similar mysterious enchantment is Little Red Lung, whose Zoe-Ruth Erwin is not only on the bill, but was also the photographer for the album art at right.
SXSW launches it's music festival in Austin, Texas on Tuesday sucking up local bands like Body Parts, Yellow Red Sparks, Haim, Family of the Year, Lord Huron, Gliss, Hands, NO, The Blank Tapes, Sea Wolf, Jenny O, Fol Chen, Letting Up Despite Great Faults and The Lonely Wild, our Austin compatriot Tenlons Fort, along with big acts like The Airborne Toxic Event, Devendra Banhart and Divine Fits.
A lot of the younger up-and-coming local bands have foregone this year's SXSW and will be appearing in Los Angeles this week including Halfbluud, Frank Fairfield and Willoughby, who have shows buried in the schedule. It's a light week but there are treasures to be found.
