A pretty busy calendar ahead as the last week before that Texas festival that usually dominates music news during it's run, despite there being a lot fewer local bands going this year. SXSW 2013 kicks off with the Film Festival portion beginning March 8th, but the Music Festival doesn't open until the following Tuesday, March 12th, and continues for six days.
This week seems to highlight some of the amazingly talented women out there from Becky Stark in Lavender Diamond (at right) and The Living Sisters to Jenny O. to Azalia Snail in LoveyDove and Jessica Dobson's Deep Sea Diver. Also Amanda Palmer is in town for a spoken word program at Echoplex on Tuesday called "Women of Letters".
I saw some terrific shows last week including Matt Pond at Echoplex and the live debut of Haunted Summer at their Casey's residency. And my own surprising show at Lot 1 last Saturday which featured the amazing solo debut of The Californian's John Graney, an electrifying Cardoza and a gorgeously sung and played set by Daniel Ahearn and Mindy Jones (Daniel Ahearn and The Jones). Thanks to all of them. But at the moment I'm coming down with a nasty cold, so this column may feel a little unfinished.
