At The Echo on Friday night to see the terrific set by The Veils, I was chatting with Kevin Bronson when he let slip that there were rumors of a gigantic secret show on Saturday. All one needed to do was get in line before 8 AM at El Rey to try to get a ticket. By now everyone knows this was for The Rolling Stones at Echoplex (above). I was too busy...and that will have to be my excuse. The historical nature of the show and the fact that I leaned more toward The Stones than The Beatles during their 1964 and 1965 "Get Off My Cloud"/"Ruby Tuesday" era, makes me kind of sorry I missed it. Now beginning their sixth decade in the limelight, The Rolling Stones kick off their newest tour on Friday night at the slightly less intimate Staples Center.
Last week was packed with good shows, and this week looks just as busy. On Saturday there's a mini music festival called The Eclectic Music Festival & Art Walk at Burke Triolo Studio and three stages staked out across South Pasadena, with Torches, Tapioca and the Flea, L.A. Witch and Mt. Ossa among others slated to play. Starts at 2 PM. And be on the look out for shows with NO, Haunted Summer, Tall Tales and the Silver Linings, The Black Apples, Pam Shaffer, Pageants and so many more. Enough to keep you out every night.

DECISION:
With all the shows tonight I'm going to point you toward Hotel Cafe where Sky White Tiger performs an early set at 7 PM. Sky White Tiger (at right) is actually the stage name for Louis Schwadron who is a dazzling one-man-band all by himself. He played for one of my Lot 1 shows and this guy's a whirling dervish of talent. Part-musician, part-dancer, part-street busker, part-everything else, this guy brought the club to life.

DECISION:
There's a nice little local festival taking place in Pasadena called Eclectic Music Festival & Art Walk with Torches, L.A. Witch and Mt. Ossa at Burke Triolo Studio and surrounding locations in South Pasadena. But I have a Feed Your Head show at Lot 1 and starring Judson who has assembled a first-class band for the occasion. It's been way too long since I've seen him perform and this will be an exciting program.
Cinco De Mayo festivities blast off at The Echo, while The Picture and the Frame play an album release show at El Cid , Mike Watt & The Missing Men at Redwood Bar and Built To Spill finish up a two night run at The Troubadour.

Another good Grand Ole Echo takes place this afternoon at The Echo with Grant Langston, and there's nice variety in the bill cooked up for Cinco De Mayo hosted by Near Mess Records called the Cinco De Messo Celebration at The Satellite with Cotillon, VUM and Cobalt Cranes.
Happy Cinco De Mayo everyone, and have a great week.
