May's Monday residencies get a great start up with Air Life at The Satellite, and featuring Gallant, Sanglorians and The Silver Lake Chorus, while In The Valley Below blast off at The Echo. Competition comes from Cinco De Mayo and the 6th Anniversary celebration for a favorite haunt of mine, Lot 1 (at right). Now that I'm closing in on my third year of doing my Feed Your Head shows there, I'm mighty proud to recommend this. Veterans of Future Wars are performing, among others.
It's going to be a busy week, what with the must-see bill on Tuesday at The Satellite where Afternoons are headlining Charlie Wadhams and the return to the stage of former Movies frontman, Timothy James, joining him. That is sure to bring out a lot of people. Very much looking forward to seeing Jacco Gardner from The Netherlands again, for they came back to America for the Austin Psych Fest and as they are fans of Haunted Summer, they asked to play an L.A. show with them and will be at The Church on York on Thursday night. I saw them last year at Culture Collide Festival where they turned me into an instant fan.
Bunch of big shows this week and a lot of dates with refugees from the Austin Psych Fest in Texas coming through Los Angeles. Acid Mothers Temple are at The Echo on Wednesday, Rodrigo & Gabriella are taking two nights at The Orpheum on Tuesday and the Hollywood Palladium on Wednesday and Ray Lamontagne at The Cathedral Sanctuary at Immanuel Presbyterian on Tuesday. We Are Scientists are accustomed to larger venues at The Troubadour on Thursday but my favorite show would have to be The Brian Jonestown Massacre on Saturday at The Wiltern. Have to get there early enough to get into the pit!

DECISION:
Lots of opportunity to celebrate Cinco de Mayo tonight with some great music. And congratulations to Lot 1, who are also celebrating their 6th anniversary with a Cinco de Mayo show featuring Veterans of Future Wars. I saw In The Valley Below play an impressive set at the Lyme-Disease Benefit at El Rey last Thursday (photo at right) so I have to heartily recommend their May residency at The Echo for the next five Monday nights
Speaking of residencies Air Life, begins their run at The Satellite with Gallant, Sanglorians, The Silver Lake Chorus and special guest DJ, Seraphina Lotkhamnga of Buzzbands.LA. tUnE yArDs have a sold out date at The Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. I'm just as glad it's sold out since it leaves me free for the Lot 1 show.

DECISION:
Now here's a show you should not pass up when Timothy James returns to the local stage, to help Charlie Wadhams celebrate his new record and perform with him. This takes place at The Satellite for the Afternoons show, who themselves have recently reappeared on the scene and with significant impact. To round out this wonderful bill will also play an opening set. Dead Sara, Vanaprasta and The Vim Dicta have a show at The Echo and Jenny Lewis does The Roxy. And I recommend Ray Lamontagne at The Cathedral Sanctuary at Immanuel Presbyterian on Wilshire, as much for the beautiful venue as the artist performing.

Have to get out again to go see Jacco Gardner at The Church on York in Highland Park. When Haunted Summer told me last month that they were asked by some Dutch band to play a local show with them I recognized the name Jacco Gardner as one of the really stand out bands from last year's Culture Collide Festival (photo at right). Incredibly precise indie chamber pop, perfectly performed was my impression then, and their CD only emphasized that fact. Look forward to seeing them again. With Drinking Flowers also on the bill.
