This could be seen as a fairly mellow week though I still find things to do. The surprise announcement of a single release show for Lady Low (right) at The Troubadour on Thursday night made me very happy. I've been a fan of theirs since first hearing about them in May and attending one of their residency nights at 3 of Clubs that month. The combination of three powerful lead singers, a back up string section, and the romantic indie ballads they write allows them to soar. They are hypnotic and addictive. When they added Psychic Love, another pop powerhouse band, to the bill, I knew I shouldn't miss this. Lady Low is gearing up for a series of shows and will be at The Spare Room at The Roosevelt Hotel on October 30th and at Harvard & Stone in November on the 2nd.
Radio Free Silver Lake is proud to be presenting a show this Saturday at Lot 1 featuring a band in town from Denmark, The Foreign Resort (left), who produce a psychedelic post-punk wall of sound that is very appealing. They're on an extensive U.S. tour that has taken them from coast to coast and their friends, Light FM, asked if I'd put on a show with both bands when they come through L.A. and I said yes immediately. It also gave me the opportunity to get Viva Violet to play a show, who I have been trying to get for a while. With the addition of a side project from a member of The Foreign Resort called The Distant Intimate, we've got four bands for a full evening of top drawer entertainment. And I'm always up to hear the latest from the ever-reliable Light FM. Thanks Josiah Mazzaschi for getting this off the ground.
Mutemath are on tour and drop into town for a big show and a little show, both sold out. Monday at Club Bahia and Tuesday at The Echo. And there's a lot of local shows tucked inside...
