Now this is more like it. Good shows every night this second week into 2017. Residencies, benefits and the three day Frequency Festival 6.0 at The Smell on the weekend.
Most prominent is the topical and timely benefit called Love Trumps Hate, which is a benefit for ACLU & Planned Parenthood, both of which are dangerously imperilled by the incoming oligarchy...er, administration. With the stellar line up of local superstars Silversun Pickups, playing a full-band acoustic set, Yacht, Nick Waterhouse and James Supercave, this event takes place at Bootleg Bar on Saturday and sold out quickly.
Another local band that has hit the stratosphere is Lord Huron. From dates at The Echo and Origami Vinyl is 2010 I watched them quickly exploded into a band that now can command 5 sold out shows at Teragram Ballroom. They play Wednesday through Sunday and I broke down and bought a ticket for Sunday when they announced this final night after the previously announced four nights had sold out.
Another band that experienced rapid growth, Deafheaven, also began around 2010 and now play two sold out two nights at Echoplex on Thursday and Friday.
A benefit for the Oakland fire victims called L.A. Loves Oakland featuring The Album Leaf, FROTH and Golden Daze is at The Hi Hat on Wednesday, the same day as a terrific bill for "Desert Nights" with Avid Dancer and Rachel Goodrich at The Standard.
